Taking apart LMFC *COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY* w/ CUSTOMS
-eyes and tongue are pretty self explanatory. pop out the easiest
-as for the sword, you just kinda wiggle in an up and down motion, itll come out, its glued in.
-arm is by far and away the biggest pain in the ass, just take your time and work it out of its socket, the arm started to want to crush cause i was wiggling it too hard, but if you just be careful and take your time, you will be okay, arm went back in place
-the head is best left on the body. if you take the arm off, there is no real reason for you needing to take the head off (since you now have a clean, open, 360 degree view of the head), other than if you want to grind the necklace off. although the head will come off, there is a chance you can damage it. boardie on KR advised me to add this info as he broke one of his heads off (and not in a clean way!). see edit below for a headless LMFC.
apoxie sculpt is here and got my acetone today! WIP pix to follow later this week when i start!
(WIP pix on pg 2)
edit:
head finally came off one, iam pretty sure it is held on with some sort of glue, its a pain in the arse, and this is the only one that did it. to loosen it, keep trying to turn his head and itll eventually break loose, but like i said, it is a pain in the ass.. id only recommened doing this if you need to modifiy the cats necklace, otherwise id say leave it on, the glue they used gets kinda gooey in acetone and makes a mess, maybe part of it got mixed in with the paint, idk...
NOW, for some CUSTOMS.

Re: Taking apart LMFC *COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY* w/ CUSTOMS
so far, here is all ive gotten.. something is better than nothing right? ill try and pull one apart tonight.
use your nail to try and pry the eyes out... might need a baby flat head to help... i use the flathead to pry the tongue away too...
the head can be difficult because i snapped one already so i honestly dont remove the head anymore... the end of the knife will remove if u just push it... the hand that goes up to the head is just glued to the head and to the body, theres no plug like there usually is on a dunny to body to head so thats good... u need to use glue to put them back together if u want.. personally i broke down 1, and the others i broke down just the eyes and mouth... am painting and putting just those back.

sure thing.. i will also add some stuff about the head as a KR boardie had advised me to do so, but if your lazy and just want the cliff notes, pretty much all i can tell you is, dont remove it.ilovefreestufftoo wrote:thanks for the tear down.

hell yeah
Cant wait to see what you come up with. I have also been thinking about tearing one apart. I saw some really great ones at DCon, some guy had done a blind box series of them for 55 each. Wish I had taken his info down, there was a sick snowman and Batman version in there.

'UNCLE' is one of the artists user name on the KR board, not sure of a website. UNCLE did the top six, Ardabus Rubber did the bottom six.

fuck me blind boxes are annoying but what can you do?
I love all the UNCLE ones, the second guys stuff is cool but a bit too cartoony for me.

Re: Taking apart LMFC *COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY* w/ CUSTOMS
I did on the ones you see that were on my desk, the clay's almost dry (it takes 24 hrs to cure). The closest one in the pic is already dried and has been sanded, i need to go over and make sure there are no pin-sized holes and hit it with 600 grit sandpaper to make it smmmoooove. and then repeat with the other five.ROACHSHACK138 wrote:Did you fill the third eyes in?
Some will have two eyes, some will have all 3 filled in, but will have custom eyes. and im sure ill leave one or two with all three eyes. i like messing with stuff, so expect to see some weird cats!
edit: i edited the first post to have all the info in it, i realized ealier that all the info was scattered around in the thread, so i figured it would be easier to condense it all on the first post, like it should be.. hahaha. off to tend to my LMFCs! hopefully i can get some more progress and pics this weekend!

the bakeable sculpey is usually the clay of choice for these projects.

Really? thought it would be something else, dont remember sculpey taking so long to cure. Anyone try Magic Sculpt?

I do chavant then to resin and have no idea what takes how long to cure. Im just guessing here.
Re: Taking apart LMFC *COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY* w/ CUSTOMS
it pretty much boiled down to two reasons why i wont use sculpey.. dont wanna fuck up the oven, and after reading a few threads like the one below, it just doesnt seem like the best application for vinyl toys, and if im going to make something that im going to try and sell, i want to make the nicest shit i possibly can with the best materials. Ardubus Rubber also comments in it.

I use Apoxie Sculpt,(clicky) its freakin awesome. Pretty much the same thing as magic sculpt, but made my Aves. There are many reasons why i chose it, and it probably the only thing i would recommened on vinyl toys.
-its an epoxy, so it will bond to vinyl way better than sculpey or any other clay that doesnt have expoxy in it
-no oven to fuck up
-2-3 hours of working time (although i usually only need 20 minutes)
-sandable, waterproof
-when its still wet, you can use a little bit of water to smooth it out if its not wanting to spread.
-when it dries (24 hrs), its awesome. made a little ball of it and threw it on the ground almost as hard as i could and i just bounced off the ground.
I read another sculpting article that goes over a lot of the products you can use and the author pretty much chose apoxie sculpt for all of his stuff, although he did complain about how you only have a few hours to work with it and how you gotta wait 24 hours. which is something i can get over no prob. This article is pretty much what made me try this stuff.
I dont really have a theme for my cats, although ill prolly start with a satan kitty, bong/stoner kitty, and a nerd kitty. i got a few other ideas but i have to finalize them. i drew these about a month ago, but i really like the way the nerd kitty came out, and i gotta fix stoner kittys bag.
well im off to go work on my cats! if i get any cool progress done today ill make sure to share!
