Mechawhales
This is my first animation with a character I created last year. It is basically about whales in giant mecha suits defending humans against evil aliens. There is quite a bit of text to read in the beginning but it gets quite action heavy in the end. Or at least as action heavy as my humble animation skills allow me to do. :-) This is also the first time I tried toonshading my characters. So I hope you will enjoy it.

Here are some screenshots from the animation:
I also plan to release a PVC figure with limited articulation of that character. Here is a picture of the painted figure prototype. The final figure is about 11cm (4.3 inch) high. While that may see small at first it is still quite impressiv since the figure is so bulky.
Thanks for checking this out, Hauke

Thanks! I used Softimage for the 3D animation and After Effect and Premiere for editing and post production.

Do you have a price point for the figure?

excellent detail in your proto, best of luck!
Thank you!

The price will be something between $50-$60. The figure is quite massive despite only being 11cm tall. Unfortunately that makes production expensive.

That's a good price actually. I've run into a bit of penny pinching times myself but if I have the extra money when the figure comes out I'll take one. Like I said before I liked this figure a year ago. If you want you can pm me when it is for sale. No promises, but if I can I'll buy one.

This figure would actually be sold at retail in the U.S. So at least you would not have to pay for shipping from Europe and for customs.

So would this figure actually be made in the US? That would be super cool if it is. Do you know when it will come up for sale?

It is made in China. But it will ship to a US wholesaler and be distributed through him. Production will start soon and I hope to have them out by late summer early fall. That is the plan at least.

I love this... Reminds me of early 90's cartoons like street sharks

I was actually going to ask if he was going to make a mecha-shark. I love ocean animals so that's why I like this project. Sperm whale was a good choice too.

I think I will stick to whales at the moment. However I might branch out to different kinds of whales. Here is a rough concept for an orca whale:
These would be close combat commando units.
Re: Mechawhales
They would be smaller than the sperm whales right? Looks awesome man. I don't usually get too excited for projects like this, but I really like this one.

Yes this one would be a smaller comando unit. I might make a bigger bluewhale as well. The emphasis will be on the sperm whales though. I think they look the coolest.

They're also the most vicious. Killer whales are supreme hunters but sperm whales are one ocean mammal you don't want to piss off

Seems like I made a good choice then. :-)
Here is the Blue Whale by the way:
Re: Mechawhales
Blue whale looks awesome. I wonder what a narwhale would be like. The long horn could be like a jousting tool or something. I like where you're going with these man. I know I can't possibly be the only one who likes them as much as I do.

I have to admit I did not know what a narwhale is until I looked it up on Wikipedia. Those are cool. Maybe some day I will add them to the cast. :-) Oh and donät worry. This whole project seems to be quite popular. Especially the animation. So I hope to be able to work on it for quite some time...
