An Open Letter to Squadt Fans
The last year has been a hard one for Squadt collectors, I know that. Aside from Squadt Assembly 20 in April, there just wasn’t a lot of new Squadts. There are a lot of reasons, mostly boring, but rather than talk about what could have been, I prefer to look forward and share with you the future of the brand.
END OF AN ERA
As of now, the partnership between myself and ThreeZero has ended amicably. The end of that relationship, however, is not the end of Playge or the Squadt brand. Going forward, Squadts will be produced by a partnership between myself and Squibbles Ink + Rotofugi, still under the Playge umbrella.
Before we start anew though, there are two new 6” Squadts on the horizon — one “direct” release and one “retail” — plus the first regular release of the 20” Squadt, that were all produced by ThreeZero.
PENDING RELEASES
Today we’re announcing details for GERM s006 [PEACE FUCKER] - the “retail” release.
GERM s006 [PEACE FUCKER] includes the following: 6” Squadt vinyl figure, removable Germ helmet, Peace Fucker shirt, tactical vest w/ removable pouches, sUMP, machete, PF patches, RPG and 2 sets of lenses plus classic and 2.0 arms.
Suggested Retail Pricing will be $99 plus shipping and this release will be available for pre-order from rotofugi.com and other retailers on Monday, November 14 at the following times:
New York 10:59 am
Chicago 9:59 am
Los Angeles 7:59 am
London 3:59 pm
Paris 4:59 pm
Hong Kong 11:59 pm
Estimated ship date is mid- to late-December.
We’ll be announcing details for the other pending releases as their release dates come a little closer, but heads up, it won’t be a super long wait.
THE FUTURE
We (myself and Squibbles Ink + Rotofugi) are all excited about the future, but being entirely honest, we’re just getting started on this new partnership and there will likely be a fairly big delay between the release of the last stock of Squadts produced by ThreeZero and the next Squadt release. How long you ask? Again, honestly, we’re not sure. We’re hopeful to have new Squadts produced and ready to sell by Summer 2017, and, with a little luck, that will be the beginning of a new era of regular Squadt releases.
One option we are exploring, and would love some feedback on from collectors, is a Squadt Subscription. Details of exactly how such a deal would work are still a little hazy, but the gist of it is that collectors willing to subscribe would be guaranteed every “direct” release for a year (included in the cost of the subscription). This will all be handled by Rotofugi.
Once that is up and running, we hope to resume periodic “retail” releases (available at Rotofugi and other retailers) to make Squadts available to new fans and help grow the brand to guarantee it’s future…and then, if everything works out, look again at the idea of an ongoing Online Squadt Assembly where you’ll have the opportunity to build your own Squadt from a variety of seasonal accessory modules.
Again, we want to be clear….we are quite early in the planning stages. We’re optimistic, but producing toys is never as easy as it might look (and often more expensive than you’d think) and we don’t know 100% for sure where this is going just yet, but we wanted to at least let you know that we’re working behind the scenes.
Thank you for all of the support you’ve shown over the last several years and here’s to the future!
Best,
Ferg

Re: An Open Letter to Squadt Fans
I am so pumped for new Squadt exits. Thanks for keeping us in the know, FERG.
EDIT: What are the Peace Fucker shirt and alternate lenses? Will we get more teasers or have to wait until it's in hand? And does the direct release have the same lenses? Just trying to figure out how many I need . . .

Thanks for the update Ferg. Regarding the subscription, I think its a great idea for those who want every release, however me being picky/particular as I am, I know there will be releases I do not plan on picking up so it would defeat the purpose (for me at least). If there was an option to sign up and then maybe opting in and out of certain releases I'd be all for it. Looking forward to future releases.

Re: An Open Letter to Squadt Fans
I need that 20" Squadt so BAD!
Ferg, can't wait for 20" and looking forward to more Squadts in general.
Quick question, how limited is Rotofugi Retail version or it's an open pre-order?
Thank you for what you do and best of luck with all your plans!

Awesome, thanks for the headup. I really hope that the new Playge will work. By the way, does the PF is made by three zero? Or is it coming from the new factory?

It is NOT an open pre-order...these are already finished and on the slow boat from China. As for the exact edition size, sorry, that number is never released for the retail editions.

Appreciate the feedback. I can't say exactly if we'll do something to accommodate people who might want to pick and choose releases just yet, but we will definitely keep it in mind.

YEEEEESSS!!! This is all around awesome! Congrats Guys! ..Im down for a subscription as long as the subscribers get a little extra incentive to join ie. a special (suscriber) edition squadt or gear or a little something extra like patches or stickers pins idk kinda like the budscrption if im not mistaken(that was before me)..because the die hards are always gonna be there f5ing 5 minutes early anyway so were/they are kinda sorta guaranteed one..but i cant wait either way this is looking awesome..and the PF looks sooo sick..RPG!!CLEAR machette!!im so in..

Re: An Open Letter to Squadt Fans
That's MAD dope, congrats gentlemen!
On the subscription, am with Canklebreaker. I only collect the gas masks. I would be down for a subscription with a discount on select retail figures with free shipping? Like 3A.
Direct 'Limited' Squadts will still be through Projectsquadt?
Super excited for you guys!
Oh yeah! PF Germ is looking hell of SOLID! Monday can't come soon enough.

Re: An Open Letter to Squadt Fans
No apologies necessary. All the hardcore people (most everyone) isn't going anywhere.
I'm personally very excited about the new path. Those are some great people. Together the future is even stronger.
Keep killing it and making our lives more awesome.

RE Subscriptions:
I think the 'sub and get everything' idea does not accurately reflect the state of the collecting scene over the past few years. 6-8 years ago, people didn't think twice about forking over 2-3K to Kozik or whoever. Even in a hobby that is completely expendable income, money is still tight. However, there are still the hardcore people that (bless their hearts), only collect playge stuff. I'm sure this drought of releases hasn't been easy for you either Ferg from an income standpoint. So perhaps tackle this 2 ways at the same time:
1. Year sub :
-Limited to 10-20 spots.
-Get all direct releases for a year
-Sub exclusive items included in price - i.e. Print, squadt accessories, custom squadt helmet (since Squibbles/Roto has the spray booth)
2. Standard membership (in vain of ThreeA style but different):
**No need for discount on items like 3A or membership only squadt. Since those 2 factors is what makes 3A membership $150-$200. And since some people only buy 4 or so Squadts a year, an expensive membership wouldn't pay off for them. So price this low, like $50-60.
-open but limited window for people to sign up
-small membership pack i.e. pin, patch, matching human & squadt tee pack.
- ??? members get first crack at direct release by 30 minutes
-Option to purchase member only items throughout the year. i.e. QPMNT PACKs, SA items, household goods. This is where you could entertain a member only Squadt for purchase if the initial # of memberships makes it cost effective to produce a run of figures.
Whatever you do, it's going to be great. I'd say welcome back but you really never left
