Re: shipping costs
NefariousNR wrote:So, I have a question about my post here. IF this seller was so interested in getting 5 star feedback, shouldn't the seller behave in a way to deserve that feedback? If, after shipping my item, the seller sees that they charged me 5 times the shipping cost, shouldn't they just offer a refund on the shipping? The seller could have very easily refunded the shipping difference, minus the handling charge and then that would deserve all 5 stars in the feedback. Or is it up to me to get after the seller and ask for money back? If I have to ask for a refund, that's not great customer service and therefore, 5 stars isn't deserved. Am I wrong in thinking this way?
You're NOT wrong
Don't give him 5 stars
But as I said before, start a claim.

Yes.
But before you email the seller, what did you buy, how much was it and how much was shipping?
I mean if you got an item that is normally priced around $50 for like $20. And then you paid $20 shipping you still got a decent deal after everything is said and done. And it is not like the shipping charges were hidden from you, eBay clearly lists shipping charges below the "Buy It Now/Bid" button. And using the USPS/UPS.FedEx websites it is pretty easy to get a rough idea how much it should cost to ship something.
Caveat emptor and all that, but as long as the prices for everything was clearly displayed and you agreed to pay those prices I don't think you have a lot of room to complain. Technically the shipping charges are what the seller is charging you to have the item delivered to you, now how much it costs him to ship it.
Feel free to leave him negative feedback or no feedback though. I almost always think the feedback system on eBay is basically a bunch of bullshit anyway.

I'm not starting a claim. I agreed to pay the S&H but when I saw the postage price when I got the package, I was peeved. I just don't think the seller should be giving me grief that I gave him the rating I did. I chose the "neither reasonable not unreasonable" rating. I think that's fair. That rating system is my voice after seeing the difference in what it cost to actually ship the items.

Re: shipping costs
Ebay has a excessive shipping policy, if it's not followed the seller should only get 1-3 stars.
You as a buyer don't know the exact S&H charges so you have to trust that the seller follows the policy.
If not, the seller is an a-hole

Re: shipping costs
Now that we're on the topic of eBay, maybe you guys can help me.
So they've started this new eBay Buyer Protection lah-dee-dah. Does this cover damage incurred to an item while in transit? I've been emailing eBay and no customer service dick licker will get back to me.
The reason I'm asking is because I've made some purchases where the seller is still trying to push insurance on me. Are they trying to make a quick buck, or is because damage isn't covered in Buyer Protection?
Thoughts?

My thinking is that they want you to buy insurance because if it is lost or damaged they do not want to be liable for it. I sell on eBay quite a bit and recently a package I sent out was 'lost' in the mail according to the USPS. It sucked to have to refund that buyers cash (only a few buck, but still!) when I packaged the toys up carefully and labeled them properly only to have USPS fuck up.
Had I purchased insurance (at the buyers expense) then I as a seller would have been able to be reimbursed for the refund I gave to my buyer.
Don't buy insurance if you don't want to. But if something does happen know that the seller is not legally required to give you back your money.
Re: shipping costs
And that's my question: if something does happen and I didn't buy insurance from the seller, can I rely on eBay to reimburse me? (Per their Buyer Protection plan)? They don't have anything written about purchases damaged in transit.

Re: shipping costs
If a item is broken I think you're covered.
But sometimes you have to return the item at your own expense.

Re: shipping costs
I once bought a item with insured shipping.
When it arrived it was broken and the Swedish Post took the blame for it.
But to get the $$$ the seller was forced to contact USPS.
He refused to do that if I didn't send the item back
So I never got the $$$ from the insurance I paid for
Unfortunately the claims etc. took so long time I never got the chance to give him negative feedback
His ebay name is idm_id and he's an id**t

I think that if the item doesn't arrive in the condition it is listed in the item description, than eBay will back you up.
However I have never used this process so I have no idea how reliable they are or how long it will take.

But you often need to ship the item back at your own expense.
