Mark Ryden's YHWH Vinyl Figure..can't make up my mind on this one.

Priced at $180

Love Mark's art, just don't know about this and how to display it at that.

It looks like a lumpy Dildo with eyes & ears.

BigC will probably want this one... (unless its too small?)

Seriously of all of his cool paintings this is what he pics to make a sculpt of? WTF, and you knew it would be priced out of hand. No thank you Mr. Ryden, peddle your wares somewhere else.

I like it, it's more art sculpture than toy. Price is a bit high, but qc looks good and depending on the run size, it might be able to justify it. Still, he could have chosen a better figure.

But seriously, with a pretty impressive portfolio like Mark Ryden has, this toy (art sculpture, whatever) is pretty underwelming.

I have to agree with Wacko. He has SOOOOO many better concepts for this to be his first vinyl. It looks like an over-sized accessory.

Those would be VERY complex pieces, and very difficult to mass-produce. They would be amazing, mind you.

Cool, but the picture is enough for me. Don't think I would own that. Besides my cat would just see it as a scratching post.

I have seen some Japanese figures that are at least as detailed if not more than the girls in the paintings and they are "mass" produced (although that is the wrong term, since mass-produced means thousands, and in art toy terms you are talking about a thousand but usually a lot less). Don't forget that he is charging $180 for this thing...

He doesn't have to recreate a scene, but just one girl in a static pose would have been fine. The pumpkin-headed guy woulda been cool, or even the fucking bunny from the first painting or the devil headed dog from the last would have been more representative of his popular art than the "I-See-U Dildo."

in this case the beauty is not in the simplicity of the design.

has this been released? Or is this being released as part of the show with Johnny Crap at the end of this month? I've been trying to find a pic of the toy they are releasing at that show.

That pic has not been leaked as of yet. There was a lot of print leaking over at GP the other day though.

I think the price is quite high considering the fairly large edition size.

price is way to high.... with shipping it comes to $201 for me.... $21 shipping?!?? are they serious???

2,000pcs is way too much of an edition size for the $180 +$21 price tag imo
and i like almost all ryden's stuff and have a few of his books

i kinda think he just wanted to make something easy and charge a lot for it.
i don't see how the sculptor could have charged him much for the sculpt... being it a big pink dildo with ears.
but i can see mr. ryden (who charges like a grand for a fucking print) trying to make as much money off his fans as he can...

yeah the man's brilliant with the brush but i just can't bring myself to buy it.

i would have in a heart beat if it came with the girl.... but then again if it came with the girl it would have probably been another $300+ on top of the $180 so even then i probably wouldn't have gotten it.


sorry to say it but this will probably be it for marky in the vinyl industry,
which is a shame because i would have liked a little vinyl Lincoln or a butcher bunny.

Exactly my point. Note that it says only large quantities, and not what number constitutes said quantities. It refers to the style, generally utilizing assembly line techniques or machinery. 2000 is a pretty large quantity. Personally, I am willing to bet that these are not made one at a time by someone at a desk. Either way, I never referred to the price in my post, as it is irrelevant. I was merely defending my use of the term.

I would love to see the girl with the scene inside her hollowed-out dress. I think that would not be feasible except as a sculpture. Pulling a vinyl version of most of those figures would be pretty damn tricky. But if they pulled it off it would be amazing, I'm sure.
