yay. la guardia at 10 o'clock in the morning. and no sleep in the past
36 hours. I'm having some fun now! actually, I get the impression that
la guardia is new york's miday... chi-towners can interpret their own
meanings from that. really looking forward to our time in the city proper...
which, unfortunately, won't be until Monday afternoon. we've got about
an hour and a half to kill before our ride shows up and we all drive off
to williamstown, ma for our friend's wedding tomorrow (10.10.10, but
in the auspicious chinese way, not the lame binary way.)

more fun to come, no doubt. to any new yorkers, feel free to post any
cultural or otherwise quintissential new york activities, housekid's
already weighed in on some high end eats...

Have a great time, fellow Chi-towner. Buy me the Andrew Bell figure as a souvenir.

yay for Monday morning and NOT having to go into work. boo for morning
after wedding reception hangovers and bridesmaids that get drunk and have
to talk to ralph on the big white phone... at the bar. williamstown is beatuiful,
and almost competely lacks any sort of cell coverage. and wouldn't you know
it... we run into more chi-towners, and start planning korean bbq outings
for when we get home.

the wedding was awesome, and pretty much made up for having to miss nycc.
really looking forward to heading back to the city today so we can start the
vacation part of this vacation.

may not see any bell's floating around, but I will be hitting up the shops around,
simply so I can walk out afterward and say "rotofugi is better." =p

"rotofugi is better"

Yeah, it is. The new space is a game-changer. They are in a league of their own in this space. It's amazing.

holy effing shitballs on rice!
I have had some of the tastiest things in nyc in the past few hours! (well, at
least the tastiest things that don't require high interest loans to cover the
cost to eat them.) ippodu: tasty pork belly ramen in spicy soup. add the soft
boiled spiced egg, and it's brilliant. but for the love of god... GET SOME OF
THE PORK BUNS! char sui bao, not even close... I swear, I could eat one of
those every day for the rest of my life and die happy. die young and fat, but
still happy. and then there was the lobster roll... is this thing what a hot dog
is to chicago? because these fuckers are everywhere. so far, luke's lobster has
been the best, but we also had to pass on the ones we saw in chelsea market...
there was fois gras involved, which is usually a quick and easy sell, but we were
still walking off our ramen. more to see, and updates to follow...

btw, myplasticheart is TINY as hell, and they still had a couple glop in a box,
or at least they did earlier today.

god... am i glad to be out of soho. don't get me wrong, there's tons of awesome shit down there,
but it's like (bucktown hipster + lp trixie) x (mogwai + water) = soho. skinny jeans and leggings,
as far as the eye could see. that, and our apartment down there was so freaking small... seriously,
no one in new york is claustrophobic. they can't be.

so did the rounds of the shops i could find... kidrobot, myplasticheart and toy tokyo. kr was meh,
but from what i'd heard of the la store, i didn't have high expectations. mph, tiny. and they had some
uber cool shit that i wanted, but half of it isn't for sale. boo. tt was almost too much... they've literally
got stuff packed floor to ceiling. so call me spoiled, but rotofugi f'ing rocks.

ate more good stuff... dumplings and sesame pancakes from prosperity dumpling, a way-overpriced
pasta dinner in little italy, a sampling of meats and cheese from salumeria rossi (which we ate in
central park... pretty awesome!), hot pastrami and latkes at katz's, decent burgers from the burger
joint in midtown... and we've still got dim sum and a few other meals yet to go.

also made a little side trip out last night to milk and honey. imagine violet hour, but you have to make
a reservation to get in, and no one will tell you the phone number. yeah... kinda crazy. but the missus
was all excited, so i jumped through their hoops and got a reservation, and honestly enjoyed the experience.
if it takes $16 cocktail to ensure a nice time out at the bar, without having to wait in line to get in, or fight
for a space once you do get in, i just might have to pony up.

anyway, headed home sunday morning... looking forward to coming home. nyc may be fancy enough to
get a big comic/toy con, and have more than one (hundred, or so) places for me to spend my money,
i just don't think it compares to my good ol' chi-town.
