Re: Mr Colberts custom sqube
i'm a commercial general contractor not an artist, but i wanted to make a custom so the only thing i could think of was a wood sqube. i set out to make six squbes, three mahogany and three vertical grain douglas fir. they took waayyyyy longer than i thought they would, but i've finished the three mahogany. i'm still putting the clear coats on the three fir pieces, but i fuxd up one sanding it.
overall i was pretty happy with the results. as i was assembling i didn't clean some of the glue off as well as i should have, and it showed when i went to finish them. the sides that have the cuts across the grain don't look as good as the other sides, but what can you do. the nostril was a motherfucker
i'll post some more pix once i get them uploaded
and for the keen of eye, it's firemans #4 blonde ale from the Real Ale Brewing Co. in Blanco, TX

Re: Mr Colberts custom sqube
it took about 2 hours to cut and mill all the pieces, at which point i was thinking "man, this is going to go pretty good" then the glueing, then sanding, then glueing, then sanding, then staining, clear coating, and sanding, and clear coat and sand, etc.... All in all probably about 35 to 40 hours total for all 6.

Nice woodwork! Can't believe FERG hasn't commented. Hope he sees it as a tribute. Are they to scale?

he did. i sent him one of the mahogany. he said it looked like shit.
no just kidding, i'm pretty sure he liked it. and yea, i didn't want him to think i was copping his work.
yes, they are to scale, however the mahogany are about 1/16" to 1/8" smaller due to all of the sanding. The fir ones shrank almost 1/4". you can't tell until you go to stack them with the vinyl ones
