In the past week, My mom just got pneumonia, and of course her insurance had run out and she had no more flex spend money left. So they are paying out of pocket for all her medical expenses. Then the head gasket blew on their car, and they found that they also needed to get four new tires. Then the dryer broke and they had to buy a new one. Then the furnace broke, and then in order for it to be up to code they had to replace the chimney liner and the water heater. As my parents are parochial school teachers, they cumulatively make about the same as I do on my own.

You should contact the person that sent them and have them file a claim for the gift card. Maybe the person that swiped it will try to use it and and they can be arrested for theft. Lose their job, go to jail, criminal record, sounds like a real happy holiday for them.
