got it from a place my dad used to work at.

my next best guess would have been to go to a state-property auction and try my hand there. damn cases are fuckin expensive, (new) ones i saw online started at 1-1.2K...

the one i just picked up was bigger than i expected, but its nice because it will give me plenty of room to expand so i wont be sweating for a bigger display case in a couple of months.. needs some love as its dusty and some of the trim pieces are peeling off at the corner, but it will clean up nice after i fix the trim and clean it.. also thinking about getting black acrylic plastic shelves instead of the clear glass ones it came with. do you think that would look weird?

it is fuckin huge! believe it or not, it still looks slightly smaller in the pic. we had to keep shimmying it around my fan so it wouldnt hit one of the blades, lol. woke up this morning and realized that one of the two vertical things that hold the 'arms' for the glass shelf is upside down, i thought they could go in either way, but i guess not.. so one of the sides has to come off so i can take it out and flip it around (you cant just take them out, because that would make things too easy in life Wink )

but thanks guys! i think the black looks great against the white, im just not a real big fan of silver. i should be putting all my toys in it later today when i get off work and after i fix that upside down issue, ill make sure to post a pic, its probably going to be pretty bare.. i only have 75 or so toys.. lol

Risers, my friend. One of the most important pieces of advice for new collectors. You don't need more toys, you need risers! Although more toys never hurt anyone... A little bit of added height on those shelves will make them look a lot fuller. Check out that link I posted a few posts up. Here's an older pic of my big display. You can see how the risers really let me cut out a lot of empty space.

i know, i need risers, bad. im just deciding what i want to make them out of... i dont want your regular 'run of the mill' clear risers so im thinking about just making some out of a dark wood or something, of course i cant just make it easy on myself, and i gotta make my own damn risers. Mad Laughing

and no, i defo need more toys. Wink
(but that will come with time, and every paycheck... hahahaaaa)

oh and btw i like your andrew bell worm thingys, i didnt know they were that big!

Hey guys going to Ikea tomorrow or maybe Saturday. I'm going to pick up two large shelves, but I don't know what color to go with. I'm thinking white what do you guys think? I'm also planning on getting the mirror glass back as well.

I would go with glass shelves, if you have that choice. If not, it depends one what you are collecting and what other colors are in the room where they will be displayed. Usually white is best, but I also love black.

I decided to go with white. Just picked up two of these right now.

Width: 47 1/4 "
Depth: 15 3/4 "
Height: 75 5/8 "

Planning on getting glass doors for them like the picture below. But for now the shelves will be fine.

I have decided that I really like displaying my stuff without glass. I just get air canisters and make sure to keep things dusted. I also don't have pets so it works out.

I'm going glassless for now because I didn't feel like spending $600 on glass doors today lol. Heck maybe I'll like it without glass. It's more maintenance, but the view might be worth it.

If I do go glass, it's going to be $50 per door and I have 12 cubes to cover. I wonder if it will be cheaper to just get custom glass doors like one per column?

tough decision on getting glass doors or not....

my area is so dusty that I only keep a portion of my collection out and rotate some pieces.....

just can't get myself to spend close to $1K on shelves when there are so many good toy drops...

I used to use air cans to clean my toys, not anymore. Apparently they are really bad for the environment and with the crap that has been going around my area I certainly believe it.

So now I use one of those swiffer towels, works great and its fun to clean the toys once a month and rearrange them. Its so therapeutic, lol. Give it a go, man.

How about a small compressor with a tamed down nozzle?
