This is so awesome! I just picked him up last night at rotofugi, and for the life of me I cannot get these lenses out. I even took the helmet apart and tried to push em out from the inside with no luck, they're not budging at all. What did you use to get em out? Thanks again for any help!
It seems that those lenses are glued on. That's why they are not easy to remove. To remove the lenses on mine, I pushed them out from the inside using a micro screwdriver and a small hammer. I ruined the lenses but got some orange ones from Rotofugi.
I hope this will help you.
Thank you so much! I'm definitely gonna try that! Can't wait to get some new eyes in

Re: GERM s004 [BYO] RETAIL
Anyone have any suggestions about how best to gently remove the existing LEDs from inside the Germ helmet?
I was hoping to salvage the LEDs in the event I want to swap them into a future release... not sure I have the right tools for the job or otherwise if these suckers are impossible to get out without destroying them in the process...
Any ideas, let me know... thanks!

Taking apart the Germ will cause no harm to the LEDs. As long as you have a soldiering iron you can gently pull the LEDs out and replace them. The lenses are another story as they are glued in.

The retail numbers haven't been announced for a while, but I think it's safe to assume 300-500.

I've even heard from retailers they can still order some, so there should be enough to go around

I know there is nothing wrong with retail...yet I do believe this may have been better as a limited edition version. It so captures the eye! What do others think? I don't have it, but what keeps me from getting it is not that it does look pleasing to the eye but rather it is readily available!

Good point! You can be a FNG if you want and overspend on old rare shit, or you can buy the new good shit while it's affordable. If you don't think that the retail Squadts get harder to get as time goes by, then try to find the first Playge Doctor for less than $300.

Thats what I'm screamin!!! "Some" of the retails get harder to get rather than the OG piece...Mainly because "most" of the retails get turned into customs or failed/dead projects!!!
Re: GERM s004 [BYO] RETAIL
Only _slightly_ late to the LED changing party, here's some pics of what I did this weekend. I thought it would be quite nice to make it so the different LED colours were kinda 'modular', so that I could change LED colours whenever I wanted, without having to break out the soldering iron every time.
I replaced all the wiring in my BYO helmet and soldered some pin connectors onto the end of the resistor wire and the one battery wire, so I could connect my different LED sets easily. Then, I made up a couple of LED sets with a socket type connector on the end of each one.
It works pretty well, only takes a minute to pull apart the helmet, disconnect the LED module, reconnect a new colour. I've ordered some different colours off ebay as I only had green and red to hand.
Only one stupid mistake I made was using a heatgun to shrink the heat shrink tubing on my solder.... - Slightly warped the helmet. - Can't really tell but the lenses don't fit in as well as they might any more!

Nice job bro!
Would just plain white LEDs be fine behind a color lens?

Great job Ben!! Changed a few myself but never thought to put in connectors. Love the idea!!
BTW, hard to get cooler than purple led's behind GID bug lenses.
