What do you call your toys?

Other than 'toys' what word(s) do you use to describe what it is that you collect OR just prefer to call them?

I'm sure some of us are snooty, lol. Others just get tired of the look when you say you collect toys - and then the look when you tell someone how much you spend / what your collection is worth. Haha.

So what's your choice in vocab? Designer toys, designer vinyl (toys), urban vinyl, art toys, the list goes on. Just an interesting topic and I enjoy discussions like this.

I am personally pretty anti social in the real world, so I don't encounter too many people that I have this conversation with. Most of my friends are into similar things or are usually at least familiar. But I'll usually say 'vinyl toys' or include them into the blanket statement of 'we collect all kinds of art'. Everything isn't of course made of vinyl, but it's a fair majority in our collection.

As for me, I use "Designer toys" , or "Urban stuff" , "Supra-expensive little pieces of shit"

Lol! And thank you. I'm intrigued by social aspect of the conversation, plus I love talking toys

i usually refer to everything as "junk" or "crap" just to downplay it so i dont have to explain anything

but im like you, i dont talk to many people in real life, especially when it comes to collecting
the only people who know i collect would be my boss and my parents but i never go into any specifics, especially price

...and yet any of my online friends can tell you that ill ramble on for endless pm's and emails about all of it lol

Yep. I'm definitely with you. And you know I'm a rambler too, I just love our shared addiction. Yeah, talking money is either to show off, make yourself feel bad about how bad your addiction is, or make people ask what's wrong with you, lol. It's a lose-lose.

I understand you guys' perspective on downplaying the situation by calling it junk/crap, I just can't do it, it would hurt their (the toys) feelings I'd rather just avoid talking to those people, besides you can always justify our collections as investments (as if we'd ever sell anything!) But they wouldn't understand that either. Man, this post is just emphasizing how much I hate outsiders!

I Iike to use art toys or vinyl figures. But for the most part I just refer to them as figures. I remember one time telling my dad about how squadts appreciate in value, using the playge doc as an example and he just looked at me and said "Why?" kind of condescendingly. It surprised me a little considering he's the kind of guy that can understand comics, memorabilia, and the appreciation in value those things can gain. after that I just stopped talking toys

I call them "collectibles" and when speaking with parents and their generation, I compare them to Hummel figurines. And I don't mean it as an insult, if you find Hummel ceramic figs kind of off putting. We like vinyl and cool graphic design and soft fabric outfits to swap around and customize, and they like ceramic and bright colors and cutesy Americana scenes from the cover of the Saturday Evening Post. It's a simple difference of taste.

Believe me, I have to explain this a LOT. Every party, every family get-together, to clients, to random strangers... a LOT!

I call em toys, plain and simple. However, when we get the 20"ers I'll call them art statues or something lol. When people ask specifics about them tho I say designer vinyl.

I call them piece's then my people see them call them toys Then I tell them where can you buy them then not no fckn toysrus.

Well i call them vinyl toy's or art toy's .

Last week was the one year anniversary of my mom passing. When I saw this thread, I thought I'd sure a super funny story about her. When I first got into collecting a few years back, she (being my biggest fan) wanted to learn as much as she could about it (this of course included several trips to Disney-land... AKA ROTOFUGI). She even had a chance to meet Kirby and the gang.

Anyway, early on, she wanted to search online and decided to use the term "Adult Toys"... you can imagine the 32 shades of red she turned at the results.

Mom, I miss ya, thanks for the great memories.

And for the record, I call them "toys"... who cares what other people think... they're jealous...they only collect dust.

Usually I only have to call them what they are when some one asks me.. "whats that and why do you have so many ?" and then I say they're not toys if that's what you're thinking read the fuckin box it says it right there!!!! so I just call them "not toys" lol or urbandesignervinylcollectibles all one word

Though, the lady that works in the goods inward department where I work (and have most of my Squadts delivered) insists on calling them dolls!  - When a new delivery arrives for me she phones me up and says "Ben, another one of those dollies that you collect has arrived".

I call them Art, then I'm like ok they are like amazingly advanced adult toys. Then there girl friend is like no it's your nerd shit so I just go with I collect nerd shit lol. So she's like babe you have some nerd shut here when a package comes. Out side people when I explain it to them though is hard not to break down and call them toys so they understand and then by the time they ask for a picture I either get that's fucking awesome as a response or dude your weirdo or nerd response and honestly I get awesome response more so from women then guys lmao

I've always called them "useless pieces of plastic"

It just cuts out all the bullshit and gets to the point

Normally art-toys. Easier for my family/friends to digest, them already thinking I'm one of those "wierd artsy types" anyways.
