Re: What I want
I have bought most of my BUDs of eBay, and the truth is, a lot of US, people on this board and the KR boards are people who sell their vinyls on eBay. We aren't evil (well most of use aren't) so in general eBay isn't evil.
True you see some hucksters with their eBay stores charging crazy prices for figures, but we know better and we don't pay those prices. For people who aren't us.. well the same is true everywhere caveat emptor. People need to learn to be smarter shoppers if they want to keep their money.

Not true! I have two Yuck Buds!
In any case, I hear what you are saying on several fronts. Yes, I think that the Blackout is one freaking awesome figure. In fact, it is up in the top 3 of my favorite designs. But as I said, the market doesn't justify that price. It doesn't add up. I do believe that you should buy only the things you like. I also believe that if you wish to purchase something you should pay fair market value. $166 is easily three times that.
Since the person that purchased the item is a budscriber, one that ought to (and probably does) know the true value of the figure, that led me to believe that there may be treachery afoot. Not necessarily the case, but as I said, buyer beware. In addition, the person that bought this item is also a KR boardmember with a somewhat "checkered" reputation, not that I have personally had any dealings with him. It does keep me in a bit of a "red flag" mode though.
In any case, this is mostly speculation. My only point was to warn newer fans and board members so that they would not be taken for a ride, in the event that they need this item in the future. Carry on!

Re: What I want
dreamattack owns two yuck buds. I love this guy! Thanks for not making me the only one.
I see what you are saying. Hell I bought tequilla bud from mrktrbx from the kr boards and I still feel dirty from that purchase with him. I shower twice daily cause of him. But with all the b-s I still got it (Fucking jamungo box it came in looks like he used it as chew toy for his dog) but thats just part of the learning curve for shopping and bidding for collectibles. Yes buyer beware and I hope all is smart not to deal with the ones who are just in it for the profit and not the fun...but sometimes you do have to sell yourself to the devil to get what you want.

Re: What I want
Well the person who bought that Blackout payed over 2x its actual value. I sincerely doubt he can aquire enough of them to build an army to take over the world, let alone "corner the market" on Blackout BUDs.
Whats the worst that could happen, except that he is stuck with a toy he either;
Technically its possible that the toy was his originally, and he maintains a second eBay account used to drive up the prices of his own auctions, even though this is against the rules it sometimes happens. He might have outbid himself, in which case he owes himself $166 and still has his toy.
Hell maybe he is like gopeder, who seems to put his toys up for sale and then realizes he can't bear to part with them, so he takes them back.
In any case I doubt he will seriously effect the price of BUDs in general, or in any other way upset the not-so-gentle balance of vinyl toy collecting and pricing.
Half the places you go gouge the hell out of the prices anyway. I have seen a Jeff Soto Qee chase figure sell for $25-$40, when Jeff Soto sells the same toy, from his own site, signed, for $10 delivered.
Whats the worst that could happen, except that he is stuck with a toy he either;
- really really loves because it completes his collection
- Has to hold onto until the market ever actually pushes the Blackout price that high (if it ever does)
- Destroys it because he secretly hates VanBeater and all of his creations.
- Sells it at a loss because he was stupid enough to get into a Bidding War with some other overly-moneyed idiot

You would be amazed at how much the price of a figure can rise from just one auction. Espressobeans can be used as a reference point by newcomers. How many times have you read the words "The last one on Ebay went for $___? Anyway, all good, I think the point has been made.

Re: What I want
Yeah, but technically "The last one went on eBay for..." $74, which is much more in line with both its value and its incremental price increases as time goes on and they settle into collections thus becoming even more rare.
I once saw someone pay $5 on eBay for two 1988 pennies, that doesn't mean the price of pennies went up.
