HELL FUCKING YEAH BLACKHAWKS!!!
Sorry for my late post, as I was in San Diego for the week. I got the chance to see that game, but unfortunately I was in flight during the parade. Hossa was in my shop today, first-class guy, very gracious. What a ride this year was. I wish we could hang on to Buff, he's the most physical player we have. I just can't really see a scenario that keeps him here.

Are the Blackhawks trading Buff? He's still under contract, he's not a RFA no a UFA this year, is he? I can't find Buff on any free agent list

Re: Hockey, discuss it here!
There is one year left on his deal, but they may need to move him to make room under the salary cap.
Re: Hockey, discuss it here!
Dustin Byfuglien, one of the breakout players for the Stanley Cup-winning Blackhawks last season, is in the process of being traded to the Thrashers, pending league approval.
Byfuglien, along with Brent Sopel, Ben Eager and Akim Aliu, will be headed to Atlanta in exchange for the 24th overall pick at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, the 54th pick, Marty Reasoner and Jeremy Morin.
The picks that Chicago get in the deal were acquired by Atlanta in the trade that sent Ilya Kovalchuk to New Jersey last February.
The only hold-up on trade call appears to be tied to waiting for league personnel to land in Los Angeles. After that, the trade should be made official.

this doens't seem like a good deal at all.

It is what it is. No surprise Buff is gone. Had to get rid of salary. Got some good picks out of it.

Knew it was coming, but I'm still bummed about it.

Farewell Big Buff, your services are extremely appreciated.
I do like the fact that we are getting two first round picks in exchange.
And, since Buff will be a free agent in one season, best to get something in return now.

I was shocked when the Canadiens resigned Sergei Kostitsyn. He's been potential that never tried. Thank goodness they now traded him and for a goalie that could be very good and Dustin Boyd, a player I watched in Moose Jaw during their run to the WHL finals. If they can sign Dan Ellis, this will be an awesome trade.

It's a good deal for both teams. Viktor Stalberg looked pretty good in T.O.

The mistake was the deal given to Huet and Campbell. Regardless, you guys ended a long cup drought. BE HAPPY!!! with the cap, you can't build dynasties. Chicago did whatever it took to win that cup and now the next 2 years will be tough while they build good 3rd and 4th liners again. I think Bolland will stay but Sharp is gone. Chicago will have the lowest cap out of any team because of the bonuses they gave out over the last season. That is the price of the Cup.

Re: Hockey, discuss it here!
The bigger problem was Tallon not getting last year's offer sheets in to the league office in time. Guys like Buff, Steeger, and Cam Barker, who at the time were making somewhere in the range of $700,000, automatically became UFAs, so the Hawks had to sign them to significant raises instead of getting them on the cheap as RFAs. It's not like anyone wanted these players this time last year. This is why Tallon was fired. The Campbell deal is what it is and even Campbell haters saw his value in the Playoffs. They thought Huet was the guy, but his contract is really a non-issue against the cap since he will either go to Rockford or Europe. There's no real reason for Sharp to go anywhere since he is signed through 2012, and the core is mostly signed way past that so after this off-season they will have more cap stability.

hopefully a core of Toews, Kane, Hossa and Keith will not let the Hawks drop too far in next few yearsNefariousNR wrote:

Don't forget Campbell and Bolland, they got like 5 years left. Sharp and Seabrook both have a couple more years. With all that talent, they can build up the 3rd and 4th lines and in a couple years have a team that can do what they did this year.
