Yes they were that tight. It went to arbitration and the number awarded was 2.75 mil. Niemi wanted 4 mil a year, the Hawks were looking at 2 mil this year with salary increases each year as the cap strain eased. The Hawks could not afford anything over 2 and went to Turco, who had comparable numbers to Niemi while playing on a bad team. dreamattack is right in that no one won, especially Niemi, who I don't think really understood what was going on. From what I've heard he was shocked and didn't want to leave. It really looks like his agent, Bill Zito, screwed him bad on this one. I'm okay with Turco and overall the 2010-2011 Hawks, who will still be a playoff team.

I'd heard that he wanted 3 million year and Hawks wanted 2 million. Regardless, I agree that his agent screwed him. Hawks had other places they could trim a bit, but from what I hear they decided this route was the best way not put too much strain on the team and keep some depth. Turco is good, we could do worse. But I'm hella bummed.

shit I didn't realize that the Caps had such a strong home record
but you guys are only a +18 point differencial overall

^^ Yeah they've been a different team this year than the past 3 seasons, which may be a good thing with our early exits each year. There's been a so-called "focus" on defense this season and while the D has improved a ton, the goals have dropped a bit. They've really come to life since the Arnott trade though, a hawks/caps final would be a good one though.

eh, can't get too greedy. 9-1 in the last 10 works for me. I can't remember a playoff race being so tight with so many teams, 11 teams seem to have a legit shot out west, going to be a crazy finish.

With only 12 games to go and 8 points behind the wings, the only way the hawks are going to win their division is to sweep the 3 remaining head to head match ups with Detroit
The hawks next two games are at the stars and coyotes
Two outright wins would be huge

Caps are starting to rest their starters. OV looks to be watching from home the next week or so. Hopefully this pays off for us, every April i feel like i just got dumped after our first round exits. I'm pulling for your hawks man, wish i had center ice.
