Re: FLIPPING ON THIS BOARD.
Probably get shot down here?, just come back from a funeral, so am feeling melancholy ,but I am a bit bored with the lame Flipper bit that passes between forums, as if it’s none of the members who undertake this practise, when in fact, we are all flippers, myself included, like it, recognise it or not, legitimise it as much as you want, when Have you really seen goods offered at retail when no longer loved or wanted:?: very rarely if at all.
Why supply and demand =$$$$$ to many
Even buying stuff with PayPal, it now comes with a mandatory +4% or send as gift.
When does I want $30.00 for an item become plus PP fees?
In the beginning I have sold stuff at a reasonable and then moved over to some items at a higher end,( I am not just talking about Jamungo/playge products- I am generalising about the collecting scene in whole) why? Because in the early days I appeared to be the only dumb fcuk who wasn't doing so. Goods deals out, not many coming back my way, lots of excuses why, like to hook up but? and yes it has happened here too.
I have also cut super deals for people I felt would love and appreciate my stuff, several members here did very well when I parted company with a big part of my collection, yes money passed hands but not as much as I might have asked, why, money is not my main driver in life, gas money for riding motorcycle… yes
So it kind of angers me when people throw bricks in glass houses.
Selling pre-order stuff is really for those with stones.
I don't agree with this on any level, as a (true) collector whatever they maybe has lost out, and in retrospect with the Drifter No.7 and my own expressed disappointment at not getting this drop, by underestimating desirability, thinking it wouldn’t happen to me and then fragility of the site selling this appears to have woken me up to the fact this happens get over it wait for the eBay drop. (Welcome to the real world of collecting), many more important things in life bar pieces of plastic.
I have been lucky with a lot of releases in the past generally; as an OG Jamungo Subber, Ferg is one of the most stand up guys in the industry, but Fergs drops now outweigh demand, this is great for him as he shows he is doing his job as an artist very very well.
Ferg does his up most best for the C&D crew, but cannot please everyone, me included, and he can tell you how I pestered him leading up to no.7 release from when it was first indicated all those months ago there would be a Japanese exclusive….LOL
The attitude of participants in the vinyl scene reflects society and the collecting market generally and how it has changed, just look at KR forum, forever threads about rip offs etc,
To some Vinyl is the new Gold. To me if I was going to rip someone it would need at least 6 zeros on the end.
There is Pre-order SDCC stuff for Andy Bell etc. etc. on the bay
One of my other favourite artists The Beast Bros has loads of stuff being offered on the bay right now by other parties, recently released and pre order.
With a lot of it being numbered I should imagine if of a mind they could ban that person, will they? Would they? Can they? Should they? Once a purchase is made is it not the right of that person to sell on for what they want to see returned on it. Hell it may be wrong ethically, but that's the real would.
Ernesto, Carlos and Nichole are great people but they have lives to live and are artists trying to make a living as is Ferg
It would be utopia if this would happen but it won't so, like I have had to do, accept it or stop collecting.
Generally People are selfish, Money is king and this is the real world out there for most.
To conclude Have a think about it and I would bet a $1 no one here is squeaky clean, so just let the flipper thing go, it will never go away and we are all responsible for keeping it alive by visiting auction sites and making purchases from them and forums like this.
Now where’s those boxes for those $400 Die Fcukers I have in the display case…LOL
Please take this in the light hearted manor in which it has been written, I am asking you to reflect rather than hate.
Oh thanks for giving me a podium to express my rant, when having a bad day

Re: FLIPPING ON THIS BOARD.
The difference as I see it between flipping and appreciation of a toy over time is in fact the time.
If you buy a toy on Monday and on Tuesday you are trying to sell it for 2-3x what you paid for it you are a flipper. You bought the toy only to make a profit on it and in doing so you deprived another person from purchasing it for their own enjoyment. In essence, you are a dick.
However if you buy a toy and keep it for a couple of years and the market price naturally rises based on demand, when you then sell it for whatever the current market price is the sale doesn't qualify as "flipping." Any profit you make is both secondary to your own enjoyment of the toy (or whatever) and a price that has been established by what others value the toy at, not some artificially inflated price you are asking just because you want more money. Also if you are a real collector and keep your toys for a while there is no guarantee that they will go up in value.

Re: FLIPPING ON THIS BOARD.
I agree to a certain extend that there is a little flipper in all of us, but I don't think that it is a bad thing to try and make sure that MOST of the toys go to appreciating members. And if you sell something after a while with profit, would it be called a good investment or flipping?

Re: FLIPPING ON THIS BOARD.
I've paid a lot in flipper prices this year alone. A lot. As much as it irritates me I really want said pieces so its ok by me. what annoys me with some companies is that it would seem that they go the mile to allow flippers a better chance of scoring the items. Not the case here.
And I concur with Whacko to some extent, If you happen to have a piece for some time and sell it, you should be entitled to the value the market dictates. If you sit on a brown box for two years and expect to cash in the lottery, that too is a dick move.
As this thread was opened to serve a purpose, lets stick to it. Find someone trying to make a quick buck, call it out and have the asshole lose the item.
Flippers gonna flip.
